HDTV поддерживает стандарты 1080i и 720p, обладает широкоэкранным 16:9 изображением, звуком Dolby Digital 5.1., соответственно, является наивысшей точкой развития телевизионных технологий.
Посредством HDTV обеспечивается доставка в каждый дом необыкновенно чистого, яркого и четкого изображения, практически совпадающего по качеству с 35-мм кинопленкой, и с многоканальным звуковым сопровождением.
Высокая четкость (HD) означает, что число линий и число пикселей в каждой линии телевизионной картинки существенно увеличены по сравнению с телевидением стандартной четкости (SD). В то время, как телевизионное SD-изображение передается с разрешением 720х576 пикселей, HD-изображение имеет разрешение 1920х1080 пикселей. Число элементов изображения, передаваемых за одну секунду, увеличено в 5 раз. Это позволяет существенно увеличить чистоту, четкость и детализацию изображения и объясняет тот восторг, который вызывает просмотр HDTV-картинки на высококачественных плоскопанельных дисплеях или на проекторах в домашних кинотеатрах.
Преимущества цифрового кодирования в телевидении очевидны: даже при приеме "цифры" на обычный телевизор качество изображения повышается из-за отсутствия искажений на различных этапах телевизионного тракта. При этом развертка луча остается чересстрочной и разрешающая способность экрана не возрастает. Для существенного повышения качества телеизображения необходимо ввести новые стандарты для формирования и приема видеосигнала, такой системой является телевидение высокой четкости (ТВЧ). Американский стандарт (ATSC) рассчитан на просмотр передачи как на телеэкране, так и на мониторе компьютера. При этом высокое качество картинки можно получить лишь на экране специального широкоформатного телевизора с 1080 активными строками, чересстрочной разверткой.

Согласно ATSC-стандарту, каждый ТВ-приемник должен декодировать любой из многочисленных (а всего их 18 разновидностей) ATSC-форматов и выводить его точно в соответствии с возможностями конкретного подключенного приемника.
Внешне цифровой приемник ТВЧ отличается от аналогового более широким экраном: если соотношение сторон обычного телевизора составляет 4:3 (ширина к высоте), то в цифровом варианте — 16:9. Качество телевизионного изображения заметно повышается за счет двукратного увеличения строк разложения и прогрессивной развертки (впрочем, развертка может быть и чересстрочной). При прогрессивной развертке яркость экрана может быть повышена на 40%. Количество воспроизводимых деталей на экране возрастает в несколько раз. В новой системе расширена частота сигнала яркости и цветоразностных сигналов, поэтому оптимизирована цветопередача. Многоканальная система передачи звука позволяет добиться эффекта присутствия, так как аудиоинформация поступает к зрителю с разных сторон.
Внедрение ТВЧ требует дорогостоящей модернизации аппаратно-студийного комплекса, но практика вещания в США показала, что уже сегодня число программ ТВЧ в общем времени цифрового ТВ постоянно растет.

Организация, разрабатывающая и утверждающая стандарты для передовых телевизионных систем, в том числе и HDTV. Наиболее широко стандарты ATSC распространены в США и Канаде.
Международная некоммерческая организация Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) была образована в 1982г. с целью разработки новых стандартов телевидения. Именно эта группа специалистов разработала стандарт цифрового вещания ATSC, который теперь является основным на территории США, Канады, Мексики, Аргентины, Тайваня и Южной Кореи.
ATSC-спецификации включают в себя описание HDTV (High Definition TeleVision), SDTV (Standard Definition TeleVision), EDTV (Enhanced Definition TeleVision), многоканальный звук, интерактивное телевидение – в общем все те форматы, в которых возможно цифровое вещание. Напомним, что набор стандартов ATSC был создан с целью замены NTSC-системы, используемой, главным образом, в Северной Америке. Максимальное качество изображения, которое может предложить ATSC, соответствует разрешению 1920x1080 при формате экрана 16:9 и сжатии с помощью MPEG2. Мало того, качество трансляции приближается к уровню кинотеатрального благодаря тому, что многоканальный 5.1 звук кодируется с помощью формата Dolby Digital AC-3. В целом же спецификация ATSC несёт в себе описание аж восемнадцати форматов вещания ТВ, причём шесть из этих режимов относятся к HDTV. (Источник - broadcasting.ru).

Le CPL (courant porteur en ligne) est une technologie permettant d’utiliser le réseau électrique d’un bâtiment comme moyen de transport des données, avec un débit situé dans un premier temps entre 8 et 14 Mbps (mégabits par seconde). Un câblage supplémentaire ou spécifique n’est pas nécessaire, puisque le CPL fait appel aux fréquences élevées du réseau électrique sans interférer avec le courant électrique classique. Le CPL permet aussi de relier les ordinateurs entre eux, toujours par le réseau électrique, afin de partager la connexion internet. Plus tard, il pourrait procurer une bande passante nettement plus large pouvant atteindre 190 Mbps, grâce au procédé HD-PLC (high definition - power line communication), ce qui permettrait de connecter à la fois ordinateur(s) et télévision(s) par le circuit électrique. L’utilisation de la technologie CPL débute au printemps 2004 avec plusieurs expériences pilotes, notamment dans le département de la Manche, en Normandie. Cette technologie est également utilisée par les entreprises, qui utilisent l’infrastructure électrique pour créer un réseau local ou partager un accès ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line). Sa commercialisation débute en avril 2005. Le sigle anglais équivalent est PLC (power line communication). -

(very high rate DSL)Validé en 2003 par l’UIT (Union internationale des télécommunications), le standard VDSL (very high rate DSL) est une technologie d’accès internet à haut débit utilisant le câble téléphonique en cuivre, avec un débit théorique de 50 Mbps (mégabits par seconde) en réception et 25 Mbps en émission. Ce débit est très supérieur à celui du DSL (digital subscriber line) ou de l’ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) standard. Le VDSL permet aux opérateurs de télécommunications de faire concurrence aux fournisseurs par câble et par satellite, notamment pour la télévision haute définition. Le VDSL2 (very high rate DSL, version 2) est validé par l’IUT en mai 2005. Son débit théorique est de 100 Mbps (mégabits par seconde), en réception comme en émission. Il permet de fournir des services tels que la télévision haute définition, la vidéo à la demande, la visioconférence ou la la téléphonie sur IP (internet protocol).
